Since we got our beach fix in last weekend, we decided to use this weekend to be extra productive and start going through our stuff to declutter. Both Hubs and I have trouble getting rid of things, so together we’ve accumulated quite a bit!
It’s definitely been an exhausting task, especially considering that we started in the attic, where all our junk has gone to hibernate. I used a very basic decluttering formula, dividing everything I came across into 4 categories:
I tried to do as little of #4 as possible because I hate generating trash, but I still ended up throwing out quite a bit that just wasn’t recyclable or in good enough condition to donate. Our giant recycle bin and trash can are both brimming! There’s also a major pile of stuff ready to go to the thrift store next week.
Not exactly the easy Sunday routine I’d envisioned when I set out to stress less last week, but I find decluttering very stress relieving, at least when it’s done! There’s something just so soothing about organization…
(not my actual closet…I wish!)
I might not be there yet (or ever), but at least after today I feel a lot better about my chances!
The destressing spoonful overall went pretty well – I like doing the yoga in the morning, it really helps me approach my days with more energy. And being a lot more relaxed about the to-do list definitely helps a lot. It’s going to be a work in progress, but I’m sticking to it!
Time to go eat my well-deserved easy dinner – chicken wings, french fries courtesy of Ore Ida, and broccoli. Yum!
