Getting Back on Track with Running

Lately, I’ve been all about the BodyPump and BodyCombat classes, with a little yoga thrown in for balance.  All of those are great classes and I do get my heart rate up, but I don’t think I’m getting enough dedicated cardio to keep slimming down.

I did the Couch to 5K program but I never actually ran a real 5K – I blame the extreme summer heat on that one!  I started out outside, but the heat really got to me in May and I finished up the program on the treadmill at the gym.  I told myself I’d sign up for a 5K when it cooled down, then I pretty much stopped running entirely.  So, I decided this week it was time to get back on that horse!

The weather has cooled off this week, but I didn’t want to miss my Monday BodyPump class at the gym so I opted to hit the treadmill for a bit beforehand instead.  I was definitely a little nervous when I got going, and expected to be struggling after just a few minutes since it had been so long.  Turns out, I had nothing to be worried about!

I was still trucking along after 15 solid minutes of running and felt like I could have gone longer if I’d had the time – although still not sure about doing the whole 5K distance just yet!  I managed to get in nearly 2 miles in just 25 minutes, which included 10 minutes total of warmup/cooldown, so I probably ran just over a mile.

Afterward I saw an Instagram post from Gluten Hates Me that made me wish I’d made the effort to take it outside though!

Definitely going to make it to the park tomorrow Smile

  1. We can inspire each other! I'm running the Color Me Rad 5k in Raleigh in October. Have you seen it? Looks SUPER fun.

    1. No I hadn't seen that, but it does! Will definitely consider signing up for it. I'm planning on doing the Nog Run in downtown Raleigh for the first time Oct 8, it's a weekly thing that just happens to fall on my 30th bday so I figure what better time to start :)
