Eating Out Gluten Free: Z Pizza

It was a very lucky coincidence that I happened to snag such a great location for the Triumph table at the expo – it was not only right across from Ginger Lemon Girl, but also the Z Pizza table!

I’ve eaten at the downtown location once before and absolutely loved it, and I was eager to get my hands on their samples Smile  If you think gluten-free pizza is cardboard, think again!  The crust is crispy and really flavorful, and while I’m still loyal to my Against the Grain crusts for at-home convenience, I have yet to find a gluten-free pizza I like as much as Z Pizza.

The best part is, they care about cross contamination.  Remember when Domino’s proudly announced they were offering gluten-free pizza, only it wasn’t actually gluten free because they cooked it in the same oven as the regular pies?  Not the case at Z Pizza!  They not only cook the pizza in a special pan to keep it from getting contaminated in the oven, they take it a step further and prepare the pizza in the walk-in freezer instead of in the normal assembly area.

The only thing that would make the place better is if it had more of a restaurant feel inside.  They do at least serve wine and beer, but it’s set up more like a takeout pizza place than a restaurant, where you order at a counter and then sit down.  But that’s definitely a compromise I can make for pizza that good!

They have locations throughout the country (check out their store locator to see if there’s one near you).  Here in North Carolina they are only in the Raleigh area – one downtown, one in north Raleigh, and one in Cary.  If you’re ever around one, I highly recommend checking them out!

  1. I love my some zpizza! It is my #2 favorite behind Fuel Pizza. And it isn't 2 hours away. The chicken BBQ is the best!
