First Harvest

I got out in the garden yesterday morning to harvest our first garden produce of the season, a variety of organic lettuces that Hubs planted from seed a couple months ago.  They grew up quickly!

To harvest, I simply uprooted them gently using a trowel and shook the soil off, then used a pair of kitchen shears to remove the roots.

Tip – harvest lettuce as early as possible in the morning, while it’s still cool.  It’ll be crisper and have better flavor.  Plus, it’s a lot more comfortable when the sun’s not beating down on your back!

I had a very good reason to go ahead and start collecting the lettuce – we have to make room for summer vegetables before these tomato seedlings start to take off!

Stay tuned, details on the next round of planting and lots of pictures coming soon Smile
