Time for a Self Intervention

A year ago today, I was in what I would consider the best shape of my twenties.  I was working out regularly, eating healthy, not overindulging, and had surpassed my ideal weight goal by a few pounds.  I was on top of the world.  Of course, I had good reason - my wedding was just a few short weeks away!  I worked really hard to get where I was, and I was so proud of myself.  My dress fit beautifully, the wedding went (mostly!) as planned, and I headed off with my new husband to enjoy two weeks of sun and sand on our honeymoon feeling confident and beautiful.
Fast forward one year and I'm pretty much right back where I was at my worst - a good fifteen pounds heavier and battling constantly with temptation.  When I had the wedding to motivate me, it was easy to avoid indulging myself and stick to my regimen.  I was newly gluten free as well, so eating was such a minefield that I pretty much ate produce and lean meat exclusively.  Now I'm more likely to indulge in that second glass of wine or throw gluten-free cookies in my shopping cart.  Worst of all, I'm a lot more likely to skip my workouts, which only makes the weight gain creep up faster.


I know that this has to stop.  I know what I should be doing to stay healthy - working out regularly, eating mostly whole foods, avoiding things like sugar and alcohol.  We all know what we should be doing.  We all have good intentions.  It's acting on those intentions that can seem so insurmountable, and often we try so wholeheartedly that it is just too much change and we fall back into what we find comfortable.  That is a pattern I have fallen into as I have tried to get back to my happy weight.  So this time I'm taking a different approach - a spoonful at a time.  Stay tuned...

    1. Thank you! I'm going to start getting into food more shortly - in fact I have a new slow cooker recipe from last night to post today :-)
