This week I’ve been working on my first spoonful, no excuses. That personal challenge has helped me stick to my scheduled number of workouts this week for the first time in months. I know that it is just one week out of many to come, but it feels good to get a strong start!
Fitness has been the biggest target of my excuses, but I’ve allowed excuses to creep into other parts of my life as well. I find myself putting items off on my to-do list over and over again due to lack of time or motivation, so they are constantly looming ahead of me. This week in the spirit of my spoonful I’ve adopted a couple of basic rules that have really helped clear both my list and my mind:
First one is very simple – the 5-Minute Rule. If it takes no longer than five minutes, I don’t put it off. You’d be surprised what you can get done in that amount of time, from putting away the laundry to wiping down your kitchen. This also lets you tick things off the list quickly so you feel really productive!
The second one I have been doing all week with great results – planning ahead. On Sunday I sat down and planned out everything, from exercise to meals to shopping lists and errands. Then each morning I looked at my list and planned out my day. Taking a few minutes helped me keep track, and as a result I put fewer things off and ended up saving time in the long run.
