First Spoonful

I am starting with something that sounds very simple, but in reality it's my biggest roadblock.  My first spoonful is no more excuses.  I have been making excuses to skip workouts for weeks, and that has to stop.  I know that everything else that I try will be much easier to handle if I am engaging in regular exercise.  I will have more energy and endurance to tackle the goals ahead, and a clearer head to do it with.  

Problem is, I have never been athletically inclined, and I find exercise boring most of the time.  I would much rather curl up with a good book than break a sweat.  So instead of being something I look forward to, it is the thing that I put off first.  However, I know that as I continue, and as I get stronger, it will get more fun.  It is definitely fun to realize that you can pull off moves that you never thought your body could do.  I still remember the exhilaration I felt the first time I pulled off the entire Jillian Michaels 6 week 6 pack routine - and I need to keep that feeling in mind.  I can get to that point again, but it will take time, perseverance, and no more excuses!

To help me get started, I'm going to use visual fitness motivators put in key locations to help remind me why I cannot keep making excuses to skip my scheduled workouts.  My favorite blogger, Tina at Carrots n' Cake, did a great post on this recently with some motivational quotes.  Here are a couple of my favorites:

I think that these reminders should help keep the tide going of turning my good intentions into practice!  I'm trying to get off on a good start - yesterday I did a 30-minute Leslie Sansone walk at home.  Her stuff is not very advanced, but it's a better workout than just a regular walk around the block and she has great props to help multitask your workouts.  The DVD I did yesterday, the 2 mile super walk, included the "body boost cables," which are resistance tubes with a handle at one end and a loop at the other that goes around your shoe.

I like them because I can get the light strength training in while I'm doing my cardio - I tend to not want to continue with weights after my cool down, particularly in the beginning when my body is still getting used to it.  I have plans for more Leslie today, another 2 miles, and I'm  going to do some yoga afterwards.  My body needs a good stretch!
